Tow truck causes fatal accident in Fayette County

Last evening, a Connellsville man was killed after he was rear-ended by a tow truck in Fayette County. The tow truck was pulling a New York Police Department bomb squad vehicle.

The accident occurred on Route 31 in Bullskin. Police reported that the tow truck was speeding at the time of the accident. He was unable to stop when he approached the intersection of Route 982, so he swerved into the other lane to avoid crashing into the stopped traffic.

However, when he swerved into the other lane, the victim also swerved into the other lane, to avoid being struck by the tow truck. As a result the tow truck crashed into the back of the victim’s car. Police said that the victim’s car ended up underneath the tow truck due to its size and the impact.

The driver of the car died due to his serious injuries. There was a passenger in the vehicle as well who was also injured. The extent of her injuries has not been released. The tow truck driver was not injured in the accident.
