On Tuesday morning, a head-on collision occurred on Pulaski Road, where it meets West Euclid Avenue in Neshannock Township, New Castle.
A car and a garbage truck collided head on. The driver of the car had to be extricated from their vehicle. The driver was then taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of their injuries. The extent of their condition has not been released.
The driver of the garbage truck was not injured in the crash.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
It has not been confirmed, however, most head-on collisions result from distracted driving. Distracted driving is not only illegal it is deadly. Texting is the biggest form of distracted driving we see today and sadly, innocent lives are being lost because of it.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), estimates that 660,000 drivers use an electronic device behind the wheel each day during daytime hours.

The NHTSA urges drivers to turn off all electronics and put them out of reach before heading out onto the road. If you are a passenger and your driver is texting while driving, speak up and encourage them to pull over. Also, always wear your seat belt. Seat belts can help protect you in accidents caused by distracted drivers on the road.
Do your part by avoiding distractions in the vehicle and never text and drive.
