The tragic incident occurred in the early morning hours after a Jeep, driven by a 22-year-old woman, entered the interstate heading the wrong direction. This led to a collision with another vehicle on that road that was apparently headed the right direction. Following that collision, the woman in the Jeep exited her vehicle and according to witnesses, stood in the middle of the road.

Though authorities indicate that several witnesses told the woman she needed to move, she failed to do so in time and was struck by a tractor-trailer. The truck also hit the vehicles involved in the initial crash. It continued on and is currently being sought by law enforcement.

The woman who died was not the only one who was injured in the incident. Five individuals who were occupants in a van were transported to hospitals in the area following the crash. The type and severity of their injuries is not clear.

There are currently many unknowns regarding this accident in addition to the location of the truck. These include why the woman was driving the wrong way on the stretch of road. An investigation into the matter will likely provide some answers to these questions and help inform whether lawsuits regarding the matter will be filed.
