Turkeys cause crash in Mount Lebanon

A car stopped abruptly to let the turkeys cross the road. A 19-year-old man who was traveling behind that vehicle, lost control and fell off his motorcycle. He hit the back of the car, but remained conscious

The motorcyclist was taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. He suffered from injuries to his legs and upper body. His current condition has not been released but police do not believe any of his injuries are life-threatening.

Turkeys and other animals are known to cause car accidents when they venture onto roadways. Raccoons, rabbits and skunks are a few animals you will see an increase in now that the weather is warming up. Drivers tend to stop abruptly when they see an animal on the road; however, the vehicle behind them is not expecting the car to stop which causes a lot of rear-end accidents.

Sadly, sometimes hitting an animal is unavoidable. You should never swerve into oncoming traffic to avoid hitting an animal. After an accident, inspect your vehicle and make sure it is safe to drive. If you want an incident report, contact local authorities right away. Some insurance companies will need this if you plan on making a claim for the damages done to your vehicle. Overall, drivers need to reduce their speed and avoid all distractions while driving.
