The force of the impact caused the man to be thrown onto the roadway. Following the incident a witness said he was unconscious and the woman behind the wheel of the SUV that struck the parked car was hysterical. The man was taken to a hospital via helicopter where he was described as being in critical condition. The SUV driver suffered a facial injury that was not serious. Neither of the other occupants of her car, a 5-year-old boy and 1-year-old girl, were hurt in the collision.

The reason why the SUV struck the parked car is not clear. A witness said she saw the SUV swerve to the side of the road. The driver of the SUV was overheard telling her husband over the phone, that she had not seen the man and did not know what happened.

The woman was cited for careless driving. Whether she will face a civil case as well, remains to be seen. It is possible that the injured man could file a lawsuit against her seeking compensation to help cover expenses related to his injuries.
