One of the most common injuries resulting from falls from high chairs were predominantly head injuries. This has showed researchers that a restraining system on the chair was not being used. Now that there is more awareness of head traumas and concussions being brought into the news, it could be that more parents are taking their children to the hospital when a fall occurs, resulting in the growing number of injuries from high chairs.
You should also always keep an eye on your child while they are in their high chair even if they are using the restraining system. High chairs contain hardware and plastic objects, such as the serving tray, that children could bump or bruise themselves on.

Also, make sure you are using the correct type of chair that fits your child’s age and size. Along with the alarming number of high chair falls, it has been reported that there are more than 40,000 children’s falls from chairs every year. Most of the falls happened when children were using a chair without a restraining system and the injuries were much more severe.
If you have concerns about your child’s high chair and want to know if it is safe, check to see if a recall has been issued. Also, you can find YouTube videos demonstrating the proper use of the restraining system for your specific high chair to ensure your child’s safety.
