We represented a woman who, while helping her daughter move into a new apartment, accidentally opened a door she thought led to the bathroom, only to find it opened onto basement steps. When she stepped forward, she immediately began to fall. She reached out for a banister to break her fall, but there was no banister installed.
As a result, she suffered head lacerations and a fractured left arm. Recognizing the severity of her injuries and the landlord’s negligence in violating safety codes by failing to install a banister, we fought for her and secured a six-figure settlement.
This case highlights how crucial it is to hold property owners accountable for ensuring their premises are safe and up to code.
