Two Injured After Tractor-Trailer Runs Red Light.

Motor Vehicle Accidents

Two people were transferred to local hospitals by helicopter and are in critical condition.

A tractor-trailer ran a red light and struck an SUV who was turning left.

The accident happened on Tuesday, March 2nd, on Route 22, at the intersection of 119 in Salem Township.

First responders say the impact from the tractor-tailer caused the SUV to spin several times before coming to a stop.

The tractor-trailer continued to cross the westbound lanes before crashing through a guard rail and falling 100 feet down an embankment.

Both the driver of the SUV and the tractor-trailer were transported to local hospitals in critical condition.

Route 22 was shut down for several hours while police investigated and cleared the scene.

It has not been reported as to why the truck driver ran the red light.

In an instance such as this, it could be that the driver was distracted, fell asleep or suffered a medical condition.

When someone has been involved in an accident involving a tractor-trailer or a large truck, the aftermath can be devastating.  Because of the size and weight of these vehicles, victims suffer serious and sometimes fatal injuries.

Truck drivers work long and exhausting shifts; however, it is still their responsibility to always practice safe driving. Sadly, that is not always the case.

According to federal law, truck drivers are generally to work a maximum of 14 hours a shift and only 11 hours of that can be driving.

Most of the time, a truck driver will be represented by the company they work for and the insurer of the vehicle. These individuals, companies, and corporations have attorneys on their behalf to represent them in these types of matters.  That is why it is important to contact an experienced personal injury attorney if you have been hurt in an accident caused by a truck driver.
