Pedestrian Killed in Giant Eagle Parking Lot

Pedestrian Killed in Giant Eagle Parking Lot

Motor Vehicle Accidents

After she was struck, she ended up underneath the SUV. Bystanders rushed to her aid and helped pull her out from underneath the vehicle. They were performing CPR on her when emergency crews arrived on the scene.

The woman was then taken to Forbes Hospital where she later died from her injuries. The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s office said she died from blunt force trauma and ruled her death as an accident.

The driver of the SUV was a woman in her 70s. Police said she is cooperating with them and no charges have been filed at this time.

Police are investigating the accident and looking to security cameras to help determine what happened.

Many vehicle-pedestrian accidents are the result of a negligent driver that either disregarded the speed limit or a traffic signal, was distracted, or was driving while intoxicated. These drivers do not see the pedestrian until it is too late. Sadly, these types of incidents are becoming more and more common. Last week, a bicyclist was struck and killed by a vehicle in Oakland.
