General Motors (GM) recalled 3.16 million more vehicles on June 17, 2014. The largest of the recalls included 3.2 million vehicles with an ignition switch issue similar to the previous recall that occurred earlier this year. The switch in the latest recalled vehicles can shut the car off unexpectedly due to its poor design. The ignition switch can move out of place if there is extra weight on key chains or if the vehicle hits an unexpected bump which would jolt the switch. GM plans to fix the problem by adding an insert to fill the extra space in the ignition switch, where the key goes, so that the key is more secure.
The recalled vehicles include:
•· 2005-2009 Buick Lacrosse
•· 2006-2011 Buick Lucerne
•· 2004-2005 Buick Regal LS and GS
•· 2000-2005 Cadillac Deville
•· 2004-2011 Cadillac DTS
•· 2006-2014 Chevrolet Impala
•· 2006-2008 Chevrolet Monte Carol
Also included in the latest recall, are five smaller recalls totaling 165,770 U.S. vehicles. These recalls range from improperly connected gear shift cables in the 2013-2014 Cadillac ATS to an incorrect attachment of the power-steering hose clamps in the 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 2500/3500 HD and 2015 GMC Sierra HD. To see the entire list of recalled vehicles visit GM’s website.
GM has now recalled 17.73 million vehicles in the U.S. this year. In a previous blog post, we spoke about the other GM recalls that have happened this year and also the findings of the investigation that dismissed 15 of their employees. If you or a loved one was injured in an accident due to a defect in your vehicle, contact a personal injury attorney to see if you have a case.
