Motorcycle Helmet Laws in Pittsburgh

Motorcycle Helmet Laws in Pittsburgh

Motorcycle Accidents

Motorcycle helmet laws vary state to state. It is important to know what your state and surrounding state helmet laws are in the event that you are involved in a motorcycle accident. Your state’s helmet law may play a large role in whether you can recover compensation for any resulting neck or head injuries.

In Pennsylvania, a helmet is not required by law for drivers who are over the age of 21, who either have had their motorcycle license for at least two full years or have completed a motorcycle rider safety course. The course must be approved by the state or the Motorcycle Safety Foundation.

In Ohio, a helmet is required for all drivers under the age of 18 and all new or novice drivers. Ohio issues novice licenses to new motorcycle operators over the age of 18 who have never held a motorcycle license in Ohio or other recognized states.

West Virginia motorcycle drivers of any age are required to wear helmets.

Although helmet laws vary, motorcyclists should still consider the risks of an injury if an accident were to occur. At Berger and Green we have successfully represented motorcyclists who have been involved in serious motorcycle accidents.

Helmets reduce the risk of death by 37% and also reduces the risk of a head injury by 69%. If you or someone you know have been involved in a motorcycle accident, contact the personal injury attorneys at Berger and Green. You may be able to file a claim for general damages.
