Toyota Recalls 2.9 Million Vehicles Due to Defective Airbag Sensor.

The automobile manufacturer, Toyota, is recalling 2.9 million vehicles due to a defective airbag sensor.

The vehicles have a faulty electronic control unit, which is designed to assess incoming signals from crash sensors and trigger an airbag deployment and seatbelt tightening.

Toyota said, “The unit may not have adequate protection against certain electrical noise that can occur in certain crashes, such as severe underride crashes.”

This increases the risk for injuries as the airbag may deploy improperly or not at all.

The recall involves airbags in Toyota models including certain versions of the 2011-19 Corolla, 2011-13 Matrix, 2012-18 Avalon and 2013-18 Avalon Hybrid.

Toyota will install a noise filter to affected vehicles at no cost.

Toyota’s spokesperson declined to comment on how many injuries, accidents or deaths were caused by the defective airbags.

If you want to see if your vehicle is included in the recall, visit recalls and service campaigns for more information.
