As temperatures increase, so will the number of motorcycles on the road; sadly you will also see an increase in motorcycle accidents.

According to the 2017 Pennsylvania Crash Facts and Statistics manual, (2018 has not been released yet) In 2017 there were a reported 3,275 motorcycle accidents in Pennsylvania; 185 of those accidents were fatal. • If you are turning in front of a motorcycle, make sure you have plenty of time.
• Keep a safe distance when riding behind a motorcycle.

As a motorcyclist, there are things you can do to ensure your safety as well.

• Never drink and drive.
• Experts recommend motorcyclists wear helmets, reflective gear and have a bike with good LED lighting.
• Consider enrolling in a motorcycle safety program.

Although in Pennsylvania, you are not required to wear a helmet by law, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) studies have shown that motorcyclists who wear a helmet are 37% less likely to die in a motorcycle crash and 67% less likely to suffer from a traumatic brain injury in a crash.
