Hearings are scheduled by the Social Security hearing office in the order in which the request for hearing was filed. And so, it’s done strictly by dates. That’s organized that way in order to be fair. But, there are certain circumstances that will allow a person to be taken out of line and given a more expeditious hearing. One of the reasons is if they’re diagnosed with a terminal illness and that can be shown by the doctors’ records.
Another reason is if you are in really dire financial straits. And I say dire because almost everybody who doesn’t work is having serious financial problems but dire means you’re in danger of being evicted or foreclosed upon or your utilities are being shut off and you will have to submit documentary proof of that to Social Security. If you do and if it’s accepted by Social Security for either of those reasons, your hearing can be expedited.
