The truck began to veer off of the road when it hit a patch of rumble strips on the right side. The truck driver then cut his wheel to the left causing him to run over a series of potholes that made him lose control. The truck then ran into a guard rail, then a bridge rail, and then crashed into a median on I-80 where it struck the man while he was changing his tire.
The victim was thrown yards away from the scene after he was hit. He was taken to Allegheny General Hospital and is currently in critical condition.
The driver of the truck and his passenger were not injured.
It is not certain if weather played a factor in the crash, however, the winter weather has caused many accidents around the area this year. In a previous blog post we spoke about how you can travel safely this winter. To read that post, visit our blog here.
When someone has been involved in an accident involving a tractor-trailer, the aftermath can be devastating. Because of the size and weight of these vehicles, victims suffer serious and sometimes fatal injuries.
