Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, May 31, 2017 — The law firm Berger and Green of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania has announced the ‘Berger and Green Heart Disease Scholarship,’ a program designed to support students facing the prospect of navigating college while living with heart disease.
The CDC reports that one percent of babies born in the U.S. today – about 40,000 per year – are born with a congenital heart defect. “Having a congenital heart defect or being diagnosed with cardiovascular disease radically affects the direction of a person’s life,” the firm states. “There are numerous trials and limitations that people with heart disease must face that will test their resolve, character, and faith.”
This annual scholarship, a key component of Berger and Green’s commitment to charitable and community-based programs, hopes to help future leaders and professionals through their educational journey. “We do not believe that heart disease should impede a student’s education,” the firm says. “All students should have every opportunity possible to pursue their dreams. And we want to help. It is our hope that the Berger and Green Heart Disease Scholarship will provide a high-achieving student with a little welcome relief during their journey.”
One dedicated U.S. college student who meets the program’s eligibility requirements will receive a $1,000 scholarship to support them in their educational pursuits. The annual Berger and Green Heart Disease Scholarship is open to both undergraduate and graduate students diagnosed with heart disease or a congenital heart defect, and who are enrolled or have been accepted to an accredited college or university in the U.S.
Applicants must fill out the official scholarship application on the firm’s website and provide current transcripts reflecting a GPA of 3.0 or above. In addition, applicants must write a 500- to 1000- word essay using one of the provided themes.
Interested applicants may read the official eligibility requirements and apply for the Heart Disease Scholarship online. The deadline for entry for the 2017 Berger and Green Heart Disease Scholarship is July 31, 2017. The firm will contact the winner by phone and/or email.
Berger and Green hopes the Heart Disease Scholarship will help bring more attention to these conditions and help those who live with them improve their educational and career opportunities.
