Several people were injured, and one person died in multiple accidents on the Parkway North early Tuesday morning. The accident shut down the Parkway North for several hours.

Police report that a dump truck crashed first which caused the chain of accidents.  The dump truck hit a concrete median and rolled onto its side. The dump truck then slid across the parkway, through a guiderail and partially over a hillside.

The crash caused the truck to spill a load of slag dust which then created a large cloud of black smoke that impaired the vision of those driving on the Parkway North. This caused another four vehicles to crash.

The driver of the dump truck died in the accident.  Three others were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.
