Social Security Disability Benefits for Wounded Warriors
In honor of the Veterans of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom, the Social Security Administration has improved the process of applying for and receiving a Social Security decision for wounded veterans. To be eligible for expedited processing of your disability claim you must have become disabled while on active military service on or after October 1, 2001.
The Social Security Administration has made several improvements to aid claimants whose disabilities occurred during active duty. The Social Security Administration is now working with the Department of Veterans Affairs to speed up the gathering of medical evidence. A new website has been created for disabled veterans: http://www.ssa.gov/woundedwarriors/.
You can apply for benefits even if you are receiving veterans' benefits or are currently hospitalized or in a rehabilitation program. The Social Security Disability lawyers at Berger and Green have represented wounded warriors whose claims have been expedited.
